Abstract

The purpose of this article are to present self assessment to their denture functions of 46 patients who received complete denture for one or both jaws over 10 years ago.
The data were collected for Oct. 1994 using the questionnaire method by interviewing with the patients and analyzed by the use of frequency, percentage, x2-test.
The questionnaire included questions on satisfaction of retention, comfort and denture functions including the chewing ability and phonetic ability, esthetics. The summarized results of this study were as follows:
1. The self assessment of retention to upper denture wearing was satisfied group 40.5%, very satisfied group 28.6%, dissatisfied group 23.8%, very dissatisfied group 7.1% in order(p<0.05). The assessment to lower denture was satisfied group and dissatisfied group 29.0%, very satisfied group 25.8%, very dissatisfied group 16.1% in order(p>0.05).
2. The rating of chewing ability to their denture wearing was satisfied group 43. 5%, very satisfied group 26.1%, dissatisfied group 19.6%, very dissatisfied group 10. 9% in order (p<0.05) .
3. To assess of phonetic ability with the denture wearing was very satisfied group 34.8%, satisfied group 32.6%, dissatisfied group 26.1%, very dissatisfied group 6.5% in order(p<0.05).
4. The patient evaluation of esthetics of their denture wearing was satisfied group 41.3%, dissatisfied group 30.4%, very satisfied group 28.3% in order(p<0.01).
5. The patients¢¥ self assessment of comfort to their denture wearing was very satisfied group 56.5%, satisfied group 26.1%, very dissatisfied group 10.9%, dissatisfied group 6.5% in order(p<0.01).
